Oh my God.
Need.
:O I’d start cooking more if I had this. But at the same time I wouldn’t want to get it dirty.
The evolution of whales
I saw this earlier post come across my dashboard this morning, and thought I’d add some more context on the evolution of the largest mammals on Earth.
From the transition from walking limbs to fins, the migration of the nostrils back to a blowhole, and the extreme modifications of the mouth, teeth and digestive system … whales are one of macroevolution’s finest case studies.
If you’d like to dig deeper, check out this thorough history from Eugene McCarthy.

that was awesome. I want one for ALL the animals!
Moray Eel X-Ray
The exhibition features 40 black-and-white digital prints of several different specimens of fish. Arranged in evolutionary sequence, these X-rays give a tour through the long stream of fish evolution. The X-rays have allowed Smithsonian and other scientists to study the skeleton of a fish without altering the sampling making it easier for scientists to build a comprehensive picture of fish diversity.
Why don’t i work/live at the Smithsonian yet?
